after installing/patching to 1.0.0.2 I'll host a game and all will load fine but 0-10sec in the game will just freeze and the only way out is to windows key and restart the pc. I'm at a loss as to what it could be causing this as it worked fine before a rollback to fix a audio/video un-syncing issue.

Go to the game settings and set a resolution with 32-bit color depth, like 1024x768x32. This usually fixes the problem.
