If you’ve ever tried to scan a black-and-white photo that has shifted into a muddy, unappealing cyan or sepia tone over the years, you know the disappointment of losing the stark contrast that originally gave the image its power, and I had a whole stack of these monochromatic casualties from my family’s archive that I assumed were beyond saving until I uploaded one to Photo Colorizer just to see what the algorithm would guess, but instead of a garish, unrealistic colorization, the tool first corrected the tonal range to a crisp black-and-white, giving me the option to stop right there with a beautifully restored grayscale image that finally showed the deep shadows and bright highlights exactly as the photographer intended a century ago.
