New Laptop
Thinking of buying a new computer, and hopefully someone here can help me out.
My budget is around 1600 Dollar/1300 EUR. What I want is a laptop where I should be able to play games like SC2 on high quality. Also I want it to be a 15inch screen. What do I need to look for? I've no idea what's good and whats bad when it comes to CPU/what kind of screen is good/graphic's card etcetc..
Also, my budget can go both up and down depending on how much is really needed.
Any input is appreciated.

Re: New Laptop
Is weight and battery life an issue? If not just buy something with an i7 and some sort of nVidia or ATI mobile integrated graphics. Weight really depends on brand but keep in mind that lighter ones are often more compact and can have overheating issues (quick Google search will show if a model does or does not). To me a laptop screen is a laptop screen so I wouldn't worry about that.
Really, you can get all the same performance hardware with any brand at a similar price so I look at the little stuff like the keyboard layout, the ports on the side, thinness and shape, sometimes brand loyalty. I've also always had my own personal copies of Windows that I install fresh so bloatware has never been a problem with new computers since they just get formatted right away.

Re: New Laptop
So I been looking on some norwegian online-shops. These were the two options I could find, which one would you choose?
1) ASUS G55VW 15.6" GeForce GTX660 2GB,Core i7-3610QM,8GB RAM,500GB HDD,DVD±RW,BT,W7H
2) Samsung 700Z5C 15.6" HD+ GeForce GT640 1 GB GDDR5, Core i7-3615QM, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, DVD±RW, BT, W7H

Re: New Laptop
Equivalent processors
1 has better graphics, chip itself not by much but the memory is double so that's more significant
1 does 3D
2 has a slightly better screen
2 has a bigger hard drive, may be good if you don't have externals
2 looks better and has a slot loading DVD drive (that Asus is fugly IMO)
2 is lighter
2 will have a slightly better battery life
1 definitely will not get hot
2 I didn't find any issues with heat when I looked
1 has better keyboard arrow position IMO
Either should be able to run games on fairly high quality just fine. On my OLD OLD laptop I was able to play AoE3 on highest (quite beautiful for it's time) but everything ended up being slow as shit because I only had 2GB of RAM, not because of the graphics chip.
I personally would go with the Samsung but if I was more into PC gaming I'd probably consider the Asus a little more

Re: New Laptop
I guess it all comes down to HOW significant the graphic-difference is. I'm not going to play the most hardcore games on extreme graphics, but I want to be able to buy games from 2012-14 on standard-medium graphics without problems.
The Samsung one looks 100times better and it can be used for traveling. Overall I think it's the best choice.

No problem , laptop tables are invented for that, or just sit at a regular table .

8 GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Red
2 TB HDD WD Caviar Blue
NvidiA GTX570 - 1280 MB
Bluray burner + RW DVD

Re: New Laptop
All laptops have "integrated" graphics by definition because the chip is soldered on to the motherboard. Before Intel started integrating graphics directly into CPU's, there was still a separate chip for graphics on the motherboard. This is what we now define as integrated and those "Intel HD" graphics are much, much better than they used to be.StatsZero wrote:But if you want a good laptop.. good with the ones which is not integrated cards..
@Katzer
Honestly the only difference between the graphics on the 2 laptops you picked is that the chip on the Asus has a 200 MHz faster clock speed and can do 3D, and has twice the memory.
You should also note that on some computers you can set up shared memory, which can allow the video card to use some of the system RAM in addition to the video card RAM.
As for how much memory you need, I'd read this article: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gra ... ,2428.html ... the card they use to test (older Radeon HD 4870, different video RAM sizes) performs in about the middle of the two chips from the laptops.
