Micromanagement for archers

Post by snupi »

Greetings to you all, fellow players.

I intend to share with you how to micromanagement your archers in ages such as middle age or bronze age.
It is very short told, so please read on.
In fact, you should, when you attack or defense, have your archers on a hot key.

Fighting against other archers or distance units, you should look carefully which of your units the enemy is attacking. Then, pick these units, and run around with them. Since arrows in early ages are stupid, they can not hit a moving target. So run around with the units the enemy is attacking, and shot them with the rest of your army to death.

Fighting against any combat units you should micromanage your archers as such:
Always run. Since you want to run, it is suggested to upgrade speed on your units. Normally, you will have a big army. The combat enemy, e.g. swords will be running into your army and trying to kill you. When this happens, you should select all your units, and send them in direction of your back. After gaining some distance, press P on your keyboard. This will make your units stop and immediately start shooting your enemy. Also, in situations where you have to kill the enemy fast, for example he has rushed into your base, you should only select the front row of your army and run around or back, and the rest of your army should shoot your enemy to death.
Also, when your enemy is strong, it is smart to retract. If he is chasing you, it would be smart do split your army, so the enemy will have problems to follow you, since combat units do not have a big area of sight, but your distanced units do have.

Also, while fighting, try to get your units on a hill or any higher place. Hill combat is very usefull fighting against combat units. If there is no nearby hill, you should try to lure the enemy to a hill. Therefore place your army on a hill. Then select some units, e.g. 10, and attack the enemy. When he is attacking back and chasing you, run to your remaining army. Obviously you do not run to the place where you can climb the hill, you should run to some cliffs which the enemy can not climb.

So this is how archers or any distanced units can be commanded at middle or bronze ages.

Yeah but it all depends if you go pure archers or you go with mixed civ. When we played long ago, the most deadly combo was cav+xbows and it still own. depends how you play it. Cavs can shield you archers and you will always have them on hotkeys. There is only 1 or 2 players i remember who went pure archers in F11 games, but they knew how to use them. For many ppl this is easy to say but hard to do. When you have to control mass of 200 units (+) you need to also have good strategy how to connect all. If you are using combo of longbows and xbows in mid. longbows got better defense then xbows and if you row them longbows gonna be mostly always first. means you can manage them or let them protect xbows. As i said it depends all on your own strategy and experience. Managing huge army can be very stressfull. And if you lack experience it can be one of the worst nightmares.
Side note : Most of ppl dont direct attack, they just send units

And sorry i just became necroposter
