I still can't host.

Post by NYB »

Hey,I've been trying to host a game for quite a awhile now. I've tried everything mentioned, and that I could think of so far. Everytime some one tries to join my game they get 'General Failure (Code: WS_WSAETIMEDOUT' At first,I read the FAQ which told me ''Solution: There currently isn't a game hosted on that IP (or they have a really tough firewall). Try joining a different game. Another possibility is that they don't entirely have their ports forwarded, and you will not get a ping for this game. Modify your WONLobby.cfg file to allow joining games without a ping.''

The thing is,I've forwarded my ports with both my firewall, and gone to my ip from internet explorer and forwarded the 33334,33335,33336 both options. I did what portforward.com told me to do. Another suggestion I got was to disable my firewall, but I already do that with games I play. I've reset my router(belkin btw),and yes I'm on a wireless connection. I've turned it off for awhile, etc.

I've never had a problem like this before and I'm out of ideas. I have teamviewer if neccassary, but any ideas are welcome.Greatly appreciated!

I have a really unique way of getting my hosting to work, but its long and tedious. I wrote it up a couple of days but accidentally didn't hit submit and lost it all. I might rewrite it if I ever get bored enough again.

I cannot host either, but it dont give me any errors, i opened the correct ports, i have given the correct gateways for the firewalls. People can join my games, yet it does not recognize something within the system when i push the "start game" button, it doesnt even attempt to begin the game.....if there is any knowledge on this or anyway that i may be guided to be able to host a game, please mention something.

thank you

Yo, you're not forwarding ports on your firewall.
You're forwarding ports on your routers firewall..
So go to www.portforward.com

Basically, when you're trying to host you have to consider all of the following:
1) Your router's firewall (forward ports to correct subnet address--or enable DMZ to correct address, or in rare cases certain router models are homosexual and require you do both, despite the fact only one should be sufficient)
2) ANY and ALL software-based firewalls on your computer, including windows firewall, any firewalls built into your antivirus/antispyware programs, et cetera. (Add EE to their allow list, specifically open ports for EE, or just turn them off)
3) ANY other programs on your computer that aren't exactly firewalls, but can mess with EE. Examples include anti-spyware programs, anti-virus programs, and most notoriously, WINDOWS DEFENDER. (Kill windows defender. It's stupid. As for the others, play around with adding EE to the allow list or just turn them off when you want to play).

Windows defender is probably the most common cause of the issue you mention. Make it die, and if you've made it die in the past, ensure it's still dead because it randomly re-enables its self due to windows updates.
