EE1 and AoC crash on startup

Post by elfuzzilito »

I only get the title banner and then "Empire Earth.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly...blah blah blah." Don't even make it to the intro video.

I'm running Win7 64 bit, which others have said works fine with this game.

Video card is Radeon HD 4890. Tried updating the video driver.

Also tried Win 2000 and XP compatibility.

Please help.

Thanks.

It's a problem with the ATI Catalyst drivers. For some, rolling all the way back to 10.7 solves it, for others there's some settings you have to play with.

Try taking a look at these searches:

search.php?keywords=catalyst&terms=all& ... mit=Search

search.php?keywords=ati&terms=all&autho ... mit=Search

It may or may not be the video card, but this happened to my computer also Windows 7 64 bit. I highly doubt its the video card. What you do is when you install EE/AoC change the directory from C:\Sierra to C:\Program Files (x86) since you have 64bit and check if it works. Make sure that you properly installed the no cd crack unless you are installing from CD's.

It was a different error than you had but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try that as well.

Mine is the GoG.com version, so it's already installed under C:\Program Files (x86).

Tried rolling back the driver to 10.7, but am still getting the same crash.

Any other ideas?

I have used GoG's version before i think and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work for save-ee lobby because of how it was compiled. Anyways I might be wrong.

youre installing your drivers improperly...

uninstall them, get driver cleaner pro, clean for ati, restart, install drivers..

I am almost positive that is the GoG version will not work. I don't know how more I can get into it lol. Anyways, if you can't get it to work just download this one viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3066. Just install and play.
