New Here...just downloaded EE gold edition

Hi I just downloaded EE gold edition from gog.com...me and a few of my buddies used to play this game a long time ago just with each other so we have been looking to get back into it. I downloaded the game just now and it starts up and runs just fine but when I go to set up a "direct connect" game it says that my cd-key is invalid. I didn't get a CD key when I bought it from gog.com...do you guys know how to get around this? Would the No-cd patch fix this?
