Starting to get into Modeling...

(note: if this is deemed 'off-topic' because it's in the Graphics Design topic, however it was the closest thing, feel free to move it if you want to. EDIT- Now that I think about it, technology discussion would fit this topic better)

I'm trying to learn how to use a program called 'Blender', to create models (which is hard as hell, in-fact, 90% of what's on my screen I have no idea what it does). I started small, and made a soda can (which I underestimated the scale on how tall the cylinder would be, so there's a flaw). Why a soda can? A soda can is basically one cylinder with a texture applied to it, which is common for beginners to do, before they go on to create more complex things. (note: I intend to start making models for Garry's Mod, when I get better) Being an intermediate Graphics Designer has the benefit of allowing to create your own textures, like I did for the soda can.

I am very proud of myself, even if this can fails, just knowing that I made it without fucking it up (much), it'll only get better. I'm also proud at the fact that I actually made a model.

I intend to make models for Garry's Mod (If only EE's models could be modified, I'd do it,however this isn't the case), I might make models for other things, but I don't think I will in a long time.

you are not involved so Shut Up.

blender is poop but simpler and free?? dunno if you have access but i reccomend Cinema 4d then at the highest level would probably be 3dsmax

I haven't used Cinema 4D but 3ds Max makes Blender look like trash. Probably even Rhino3d is better than Blender in some applications and its extremely easy to use.

Not sure how old you are but you might be better off torturing yourself using Blender until you get access to 3ds Max in a college modeling lab (or until you decide to bootleg it).

it'll end in the to all of us well known photoshop discussion ;)

I for myself never understood any of these modelling programs but thats probably because I'm not realy interested in this stuff. I think for a first try it's not bad anyways :)

Milkshape imo, is pretty easy to use.
I've used Rhinoceros, 3DSMax, and milkshape.
I like using milkshape when i edit halo, or when i used to.
3DSMax worked pretty well, too. But the controls were tough to use
3DS Max is like the Adobe Photoshop CS4 of modelling programs. It costs around 3K lol.
