It's politics. It's up to individual states to set the law, but some years back a federal law prevented states from receiving some funding if their legal drinking age was below 21, so of course they were quick to bump it up.

I'm not the slightest bit embarrassed by it. Any sensible person knows that it still goes on despite it being law. It's incredibly easy to obtain alcohol even if you're underage. Besides, I could apply your reasoning to everything and just say that "because you're an adult, the laws shouldn't apply to you at all. Adults can make their own decisions." Obviously this is not the case, because if everyone conformed to society's moral standards, we wouldn't need any laws.

It's incredibly easy for a teenager at or below my age to purchase: Cigarettes, Smokeless Tobacco, Shisha, Weed, Cocaine, LSD, Beer, and any other Alcohol. I have no problems buying the strongest weed in town.
Granted i don't smoke weed that often, if i did it would be one call and a 15 minute drive to a friends house.
