-edit- I think that part of the error report requires a new thread, if an admin/mod is moving the question, please move this along with it.

I'm having a similar problem. I installed the Lobby. When I try to play, it goes through the "obtaining announcements/smilies/etc" until it comes to the line about updates. It then attempts to search for updates (and, I assume, fails), and restarts.
I've had the same problem on my old Windows Vista (Home Premium) computer (which no longer works),I don't know why but there
is a workaround to the problem.
<Very Short version-Download from 3rd party>*
Below this post there will be a link from Omega to a file sharing website, download the lobby + it's data and files, then uncompressed if needed, place in a good spot, and your done, Thanks Omega.

<Short version-Email>
Find someone who's willing to Email you a copy of the lobby application along with it's files.
Have them Email you the lobby, download to the computer (might be compressed, if so, un-compress it)
Put the lobby folder in a good place, run it, and your good to go...
<Short version-Two Computers>
If you have two computers and one of them can run the lobby, but can't on the other and you need to for whatever reason (e.g. EE runs better), use this.
Copy the lobby, and all of it's data, into a folder, compress if needed, then Email it to yourself (on the computer that runs it), to the other one (which it doesn't...sorta), then open your email you sent to yourself, download and uncompressed if necessary, put it in a good spot, run, your in business.
And yes, future updates will install with no problems, this is true to both methods.
The Email method has been proven, it was how I got the lobby on my old Vista.
<My case on this problem and how I got around it>
This tells how I got the lobby to run on my (old) computer. Not very relevant but might help find possible causes.
When I found out about Save-ee.com, the forums, and the lobby, I downloaded the lobby (onto my old-er computer which ran Windows XP), and it worked, but the computer was kinda crappy,slow,ect. So why not install EE (I still had the disks back then, and yes, I bought EE), EE's installed, then I install the lobby......but it doesn't work, It runs, installs, then it updates...which repeats over...and over...and over again nonstop. I went over to my XP, which ran the lobby, logged in, and asked a Moderator/Admin for help (too bad I forgot who helped me). He then offered to Email me the lobby and the files for it, I gave him the Email, he emails me the lobby (He also tells me to delete some data which now I know it's the data which stores the user-names), I run it, and it works, and worked always... Updates install successfully, and no problems, I guess the problem was the installer/updater.
<Other info>
I installed the lobby onto my new (current) Windows Vista computer, and everything worked fine without assistance.
I think the cause, judging from the two computers, is likely a security thing, my second guess is something to do with hardware.
It's Not the OS. (Vista isn't as bad as everyone says)
(By copy of the lobby,I don't mean the installer which you download off Save-ee, the FULL lobby and it's data, which is what installer installs onto your computer)
