banned sierra chest.
Would there be some reason why it says my ip is banned from sierra chest's forums...
I've never actually been on their forums until today...
I'm asking here because there might be a quite reasonable explantion and I don't want to bother them about it untill I get my facts straight.

if you have never been on the forum before, how can there be a reasonable explanation?

Re: banned sierra chest.
Sounds like they had trouble from a particular user or spammers, so they had to ban an IP range. On the main website there's a "Contact Us" link that you can use to shoot him an email and sort things out.

Re: banned sierra chest.
And nobody bothered to contact me? Looks like i'm visiting here just in time to read this thread.
There was indeed a problem with spammers a while ago, and therefore i banned a range of IPs where most spam came from. In the mean while, thanks to a tip from another forum admin, the spam attacks have entirely ended because the captcha security has been leveled up. Since those banned IP ranges are therefore no longer relevant, i will unblock them in, say, one day. People who had issues signing in, should therefore no longer have any issues. If you still do, then please contact me so i can fix it.
I've been reading through this thread and would like to make some more comments.
First the bad news: yes, the Sierra Chest forums are as good as dead. Here's the reason: the Sierra Chest forums are, as you may or may not know, a member of the Sierra Gateway, which is a sort of forum ring of different Sierra fansites. In the beginning, people from the former official Sierra forums went to all of those forums, including the forums of the Chest. There was also a lot of activity from the EE-fans on the Chest forums. In fact, i think the EE-forums on the Chest had the most posts. These days, the people who like the classic Sierra games only post at the forums of the SierraHelpPages, the people who like EE are all on SAVE-EE, and so on.
That is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, i think it's good. It is better to have a lot of attendance on forums on a few fansites than a whole bunch of forums with just a few posts each. That is also the reason why i'm considering closing down the Sierra Chest forums and instead use links on the game pages on the Sierra Chest site to direct visitors to the right places. In case of EE, that would obviously be here.
Looks like I'm out of character count for this post. See next one

Re: banned sierra chest.
Part 2
So, what's the good news? The Sierra Chest site (not forums, but SITE) is booming! Currently nearly 300 games are inserted in the database, it receives on average 200 visitors per day and continually growing, the Chest's Youtube Channel now contains nearly 500 videos (after one year, just made by yours truely), and the Sierra Chest Facebook page has more than 60 former Sierra employees as friends. If you want to meet them in person, sign up.
As for the Sierra Chest Newsletter. Those are sent out once every 2 months. You can receive those too. Just send me a PM with your email and i'll put you on the mailing list. Emails remain private.
I guess that, for the past year, we've been losing touch. SAVE-EE has been working on their server and i've been working on the Chest all the time, mostly on classic Sierra games during this first year. All EE-games are in the Chest's database, but still need to be filled up with data on epocs, units, maps, all of it. Can't do everything by myself in just one year. Sierra made over 500 games, and since the Chest will cover them all in detail (yes, i'm crazy), well... you get the picture. We've lost track of each other and i regret that, but that does not mean we can't pick up again where we left off.
Inola, i'll send you a PM tomorrow. Let's get this rolling again!

Your IP definitely falls within a banned IP range. Will be fixed tomorrow.Dosier wrote:it said "reason for giving ban: PREVENTION" I don't quite know what that means...
